Detail 92500 OTR LOCK RING CATCHER
The AME Lock Ring Catcher is designed to help with the removal and
fitting of wheel lock rings on giant OTR wheels ( sizes 49-63) . Lock rings
are also referred to in the industry as “ snap rings” . Industry procedure
when changing a vehicle tire has been to allow the lock ring, after
release, to eject from the wheel and fall to the floor ( Lock rings can
weigh as much as 132 lbs. ( 60kg) on bigger vehicles) .
The AME 92500 acts as a barrier for the lock ring being removed by
locking in across the diameter of the wheel assembly. This greatly
reduces the risk of an accident involving the lock ring injuring the user.
Safety Note: Lock rings must be closely inspected once removed
from a wheel or rim during tire servicing. Lock rings are Critical Safety
Items that hold inflated multi-piece mounted tire/ wheel assemblies
together. Worn, sprung, bent or cracked lock rings must be removed
from service, destroyed and must not be reused. For more information
and help with identifying lock rings that must be removed from service,
contact our OTR Wheel Engineering customer service representative. A
good rule of thumb is to use a new lock ring for each new tire change
to ensure you have a good serviceable lock ring. Using new lock rings
every time can save lives and prevent equipment damage.
